The Nairobi City Water & Sewerage Company Ltd also awarded us with a contract to supply and install HRC (High Rupturing Capacity) fuses at the same pumping station in Gigiri.
The specification required the fuses to be rated at 3.3kV, 16A and 32A. As these rare fuses could not be sourced within East Africa, we had them custom made in Europe to ensure complete compliance with the client’s specifications. The accompanying links and fittings were also customised to ensure full compatibility with the existing system.
Other services that we have completed for this client have included the supply of a new ‘Delta’ starter and repair of the main pumps at the Kabete Treatment Works; the supply and installation of replacement propeller shafts at the Gigiri pumping station; and the refurbishment of the HEP station at the Sasumua dam, which involved the reconditioning of the turbine (originally installed in 1953) and the supply of new alternators, speed governors and control panels.
Reverse Osmosis Equipment for Fluoride Reduction
We have recently installed reverse osmosis purification equipment for Allpack Industries Ltd in Athi River. The client’s borehole was producing raw water with a fluoride content of 8ppm, which was not suitable for drinking or cooking in the staff kitchen facility (the WHO recommended level of fluoride in drinking water is <1.5ppm). We were able to install a reverse osmosis purification system, capable of reducing the fluoride to 0.8ppm and producing 1,500 litres of pure and safe water per day.
Bottle Free Drinking Water Dispensing
The Serena Hotel in Nairobi required a bottle free drinking water dispensing system for their staff kitchen facility, as the purchasing of bottled water was becoming expensive due to the shear demand for water throughout the day. The kitchen is in use 24 hours a day by various staff working shifts. We were able to supply, install and maintain an inline dispenser, working direct from the mains supply. The ultramicrofiltration and silver activated carbon purification system within the dispenser produces up to 2,160 litres of clean and fresh drinking water per day – the equivalent of over 100 bottles.
